To ensure that the rights of union members will be respected and adhered to, and that they will have a voice in determining the policies and practices of their organizations, we proclaim the following principles that we will rigorously enforce:

  • Members shall be kept informed, by means of publications, internet messages or prescribed meetings, about problems, issues, activities and events that affect the organization and its members.
  • Members will have the right to become candidates for union office and be guaranteed fair and free elections by secret ballot.
  • The union’s newspaper/newsletter will be made accessible to members who wish to express their opinions on union matters.
  • Members can express criticism or opposition to union policies and actions without suffering reprisals.
  • Members shall have the right to participate in the preparation of demands for a union contract, and to vote on the ratification of any tentative agreement.
  • Members may bring charges of corruption or any serious misbehavior by an incumbent union officer to the Ethical Practices Committee, which will conduct hearings on the case and render a judgment.
  • Any member who is brought up on charges of some wrongdoing shall be accorded a fair hearing, including the presence of a counsel and witnesses.

Workers' Rights are Human Rights.
